Sirana Saga:

The Healer

Release Date: 5th of May 2025

Prologue

The wind howled, bringing with each gust a fresh spray of rain. Mixed with the salty sea water, it splashed onto the deck of the swaying ship. In the distance, a bolt of lightning tore through the night sky—the storm was retreating. Amidst the crashing waves and howling wind, screams, furious shouts, and the clash of weapons could be heard.

Toren clung to the railing, backing toward the bow. He was limping. Blood trickled down his calf from a nasty gash. Around him, a fierce battle raged. It was clear that the pirates had the upper hand, taking advantage of the element of surprise, but the captain’s men fought bravely.

Before him, a man wielding a short, curved saber appeared, moving toward him with dangerous intent. His wet, scarred face twisted into a wicked grin, hunger for blood gleaming in his eyes. The closer he got, the more he bared his rotten, decayed teeth.

On the mast behind the pirate, an eagle sat, watching Toren intently with its radiant golden eyes. What was it doing there? Despite his fear, the boy could sense the bird’s presence, as if it were trying to tell him something.

The pirate let out a menacing laugh and lunged. He struck forward, but the boy swiftly dodged and leaped back. A sharp pain shot through his injured leg. The pirate had him trapped at the bow—there was no escape. Behind him, only the railing and the vast, raging sea. The man sneered again and spat on the deck.

Toren realized this was the end. The next strike would not miss.

Then, suddenly, he heard a voice. It took him a moment to understand that the voice was inside his mind.

One word.

"Jump!"

The eagle. It was the eagle, Toren realized.

"Jump!" the voice urged again.

The pirate roared and lunged.

And then—

Toren woke with a start, sitting up abruptly. He was in his bed, the fire in the hearth still smoldering, the night stretching on beyond the window. He lay back down. Within minutes, he was peacefully asleep once more.

The Sirany Saga - The Healer is the debut work of Czech author J. L. Rivero. The story unfolds across multiple layers, guiding readers through various corners of the world of Sirana. The protagonist is a fifteen-year-old boy named Toren, who dreams of becoming a guide through the world like his father. He embarks on a journey, which may prove highly dangerous, to show himself and others that he is no longer a child. Along the way, he discovers a mysterious, unknown ability within himself that impacts not only his life but perhaps the very existence of all of Sirana. With Toren, readers travel through Sirana, gradually uncovering this fantasy world in all its breadth and vibrancy. They witness the battle of good against evil, the struggle of the weak against the strong, and friendship and love standing against recklessness and the thirst for power.

The book is aimed at young readers and written to keep their interest. It avoids lengthy descriptive passages that might otherwise be skipped by children. The plot moves quickly, with short chapters that make readers eager to dive into the next. The characters are vividly portrayed, undergo internal development, and with some, it remains unclear which side they will eventually take.

As Toren’s journey unfolds, he transforms—not only maturing but also learning to use his inner strength for the greater good. Sirana, the world created by the author for this book, is filled with mysterious figures, creatures, and enigmas that await further elaboration in future installments of the Sirana Saga, which the author is already working on.
